Discover Hue’s ancient arts by cyclo ride. First we visit the Phap Lam workshop, whose artisans were originally employed by the royal court to create elaborate decorative pieces made from copper finished with enamel. When Vietnam’s last monarch abdicated in 1945 the ancient art died off. Now thanks to a local entrepreneur it has been restored. Today guests can witness the whole process from start to finish, from the initial firing, molding and beating of the copper to the intricate colorful enamel designs. Guests can choose items and paint the color as they like and receive the finished item as a gift. Next we visit XQ Embroidery house, situated near the banks of the enchanting Perfume River. The place is a stylish open-air workshop designed to showcase the intricate and delicate skills of some of Hue’s and indeed the country’s finest seamstresses. Under the guidance of the artisans, guests will learn how to embroider and sketch and keep the finished article as a gift.
